Mouthguards

Mouthguards are devices that protect teeth and oral tissues from injury. They are typically made of hard plastic or rubber and fit over the teeth to prevent abrupt contact from causing damage. A mouthguard can help prevent dental injuries, such as chipped, broken, or knocked out teeth. Many types of sports require the use of a mouthguard, such as football, boxing, and lacrosse. Mouthguards are also used for non-contact sports, such as gymnastics.

Our office offers both mouthguards and night guards to protect your or your child’s smile. Night guards serve the same purpose of protecting the smile from damage, but this device is worn at night to prevent problems caused by grinding the teeth. Teeth grinding can cause chips, fractures, and even loose teeth.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may need a night guard:

  • Teeth grinding or clenching
  • Chronic jaw pain
  • Pain in the TMJ (temporomandibular joint)
  • Headaches
